Forks

Building forks is a unique and special craft in and of itself. A well designed fork that is matched to the frame correctly is critical for the bike to steer and handle properly. Chris has a long history of building bicycle forks for everything from traditional lugged road bikes through to his current ‘Tuning’ fork designs for all road and mountain applications. The design of the ‘Tuning’ fork is similar in esthetics to the wishbone used on rear of Dekerf frames which makes for beautiful frame and fork package; either in steel or titanium.

Titanium forks

Dekerf titanium forks are a unique piece of art in and of themselves. The unique ‘shoulder’ joint which bears the brunt of riding forces is an original Dekerf design. The lower legs of the fork are of a slightly smaller diameter than the ‘wings’ of the crown. The two pieces are first machined to fit and interlock together. They are welded together using a proprietary process and then hand filed smooth to create the ‘shoulder’. The end result is an incredibly strong and light weight titanium fork.

Steel forks

In the steel version, the lower legs of the fork pierce through the upper ‘wings’ of the crown. This precision fitted joint is low temperature silver soldiered in place to minimize negatively heat affecting the tubes. This unique construction method is incredibly strong and has a beautiful look.

On all of our forks, the lower legs or ‘fork blades’ are available in a variety of diameters and wall thicknesses depending on the desired use. We also offer custom fork blades where we machine the outside diameter of the blades so that they are thicker at the top tapering to thinner at the bottom to create externally butted tubes. This puts more strength where it’s needed at the top of the blades, and allows for weight savings and more suppleness at the bottom.

Various steerer tube sizes are available including 1”, 1-1/8”, or tapered 1.5” – 1.125” in both steel and titanium. We also offer threaded steerer tubes. All our forks are available with either Disc, V-brake, or caliper brake mounts. We also offer low rider mounts and various other rack and fender mounts as needed.
